All This, and a Leaky Faucet Too? [ PG - D/Leon - PSoH - fanfic]

Only somewhat edited, and starring my goldy Grantaire as a blatant Fishy Sue, but here's the fic I didn't promise.

Title: All This, and a Leaky Faucet Too?
Author: Feather Qwill
Fandom: Petshop of Horrors
Pairing: D/Leon, briefly
Rated: PG
Words: 380
FF100 Prompt: #051 - Water (table)

Summary/Notes: Domesticity!fic, takes place some time after the series end, but no spoilers. No actual faucets. Cameo role by Grantaire the fish.

When D brought home the twenty gallon aquarium and cheerfully set it up in a sunny corner of the kitchen, Leon felt a prickle at the back of his neck, which only got worse as the tank remained filled but unoccupied for a week. And then another week. Finally, on a Sunday afternoon a week after that, the doorbell rang. D flew to the door where a startled delivery man stood, holding out a brown box. The cardboard shredded like tissue paper under D’s long nails and Leon gulped, reminding himself again never to piss D off during sex.

“Oh, aren’t you just so adorable!” D cooed, lifting up the large plastic bag out of the remains of the box and holding it reverently to his chest. The deliveryman still had that faintly shell-shocked look on his face, but now it was joined with glazed eyes and a growing flush. Leon scowled and signed for the package, slamming the door with perhaps a little too much force. D hardly seemed to notice, wrapped up as he was with balancing the bag upright as it floated in the tank.

“What . . . is that thing?” he asked tentatively. D glared in response.

“I’m sure that even you have seen a goldfish before.” Which really hadn’t been what he was asking – he could care less about the apparent species of D’s ‘pets’ – but then he took a closer look at the thing in the bag. Taking in the strangely bumpy scales, the weird bubbly thing on its head, and the massively round stomach, he frowned doubtfully.

“Are you sure?” he asked, hoping no to get hit, “It doesn’t much look like the goldfish I had as a kid.”

“Which you doubtless won at a carnival and kept in a bowl of stagnant water until it died less than a month later.”

“How did you – never mind.”

D glared for another moment before resuming.

“It’s a crown pearlscale goldfish,” he said, “and he’s absolutely perfect. Look how round his belly is! And those scales . . .” Leon shook his head ruefully, just letting the sound of D’s voice wash over him. He could deal with another pet, if it made D look like this.

Hopefully, this one wouldn’t try to eat him.
