Invisible Illness Week

This meme's been going around recently. II Week is September 14-20th.



30 Things About My Invisible Illness You May Not Know

1. The illness I live with is: Dysautonomia
2. I was diagnosed with it in the year: early 2009
3. But I had symptoms since: late 2007
4. The biggest adjustment I’ve had to make is: never going out for "fun" stuff.
5. Most people assume: I'm lazy.
6. The hardest part about mornings are: getting to breakfast time without falling down or passing out.
7. My favorite medical TV show is: House
8. A gadget I couldn’t live without is: my laptop.
9. The hardest part about nights are: Nights are pretty good, actually.
10. Each day I take 11 pills & vitamins. (No comments, please)
11. Regarding alternative treatments I: am so tired of hearing that I really must try this or that therapy.
12. If I had to choose between an invisible illness or visible I would choose: Invisible. No, visible. No, invisible. I don't know.
13. Regarding working and career: I'm not giving up.
14. People would be surprised to know: how terrified I am of staircases now, and how many times I've fallen down them.
15. The hardest thing to accept about my new reality has been: realizing that it will probably be this way forever.
16. Something I never thought I could do with my illness that I did was: work 6+ hour shifts, standing up.
17. The commercials about my illness: don't exist.
18. Something I really miss doing since I was diagnosed is: hanging out with friends.
19. It was really hard to have to give up: spontaneity.
20. A new hobby I have taken up since my illness is: plushie-sewing.
21. If I could have one day of feeling normal again I would: ski.
22. My illness has taught me: to just do what I need to do, even if it seems impossible.
23. Want to know a secret? One thing people say that gets under my skin is: "You look/sound good/better!"
24. But I love it when people: do the little things that really help - ask if they can grab groceries while they're at the store, pour me another glass of water so I don't have to get up again, clean up their own mess before they leave.
25. My favorite motto or quote that gets me through tough times is: "Just do it."
26. When someone is diagnosed I’d like to tell them: I'm so sorry that this is happening to you.
27. Something that has surprised me about living with an illness is: "having an excuse" to stay home all day actually sucks.
28. The nicest thing someone did for me when I wasn’t feeling well was: told me "It's okay, why don't you just sit down for a while."
29. I’m involved with Invisible Illness Week because: I have an invisible illness.
30. The fact that you read this list makes me feel: cared-for.
