This was originally part of a larger "Five Times . . . " fic, but the rest of it wasn't working for me.

Just last monday I visited a naturopath and got tested for celiac. (confirmed) I spend tues-sat eating as much of my opened/perishible gluteny stuff as possible, then I threw the rest out and took the unopened non-perishables to the food bank drop off at my grocery store. My mum drove in from out of town and helped me out with that and buying gluten-free food items from various places around town.

So I've only been gluten-free for a few days now, but I'm really hoping that it will help with my symptoms. It could even be the cause of my dysautonomia, I guess, since mine's idiopathic. :)

The naturopath said I have to be 100% gluten free for three months to clear it out and see if it's what's causing all my problems (as opposed to just my relatively minor digestive issues), so no cheating for me.

But GF flour is soooooo expensive! And there's gluten in just about everything easy-to-make, like canned soups or porridge, and in half the ingredients I regularly cook with, like soy sauce! (I got wheat-free tamari, but it's $7 for a tiny little bottle.) And so many things that don't even have gluten normally get contaminated with it in processing.

*sigh* Well, I'm sure I'll get used to it soon enough, and it'll all be worthwhile if it helps. I'd certainly rather eat differently for the rest of my life than take a bunch of meds and still feel crappy.

So, my university has been on strike for the last month, but it was called off finally on Sunday. It's back to work now - I've got to get my CREW assignments done and portfolios put together.

Snow . . .

So. We get snowed in a few weeks before xmas, and now we get snowed in again a few weeks after xmas, but did we get any snow at all over xmas? No, now we did not. *grouchy face*

In other words, the Broken Kitty is still halfway broken, but the vet figured we could take the splint off anyways as long as I continued to keep him confined and not let him jump on or off anything. He had a few nasty sores on his leg when the wrapping came off on Thursday, but they're already healing up nicely. Had to put him on antibiotics, though, but only have three more days of that. His broken leg is seriously like half the width of his good one, which is sort of sad, and also covered with bald patches.

So, Yahoo is shutting down Delicious. Major sadface, here. I get most of my new fic recs via my network there, and I use it extensively to bookmark my own fic recs in an easy-to-navigate (for me) fashion.

Originally posted last year for the Dean/Cas Xmas Secret Santa. Written in somewhat of a rush, as I kept changing my mind about what story I wanted to write, and ran low on time to do the actual writing, lol. Looking back on it now, there's a lot I want to change about it, but I don't really have the time or the energy, so it'll stay as-is.

Title: Witching Hour
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing/Characters: Dean/Cas
Rating: PG
Words: 1333
Warnings: A bit of violence, and blatant use of Grimm's Fairy Tales.

Notes/Summary: I wanted this to have a kind of 'fairy-tale' feeling to it, although I'm sure sure how well I succeeded. "Just from looking at him, she knew what kind of guy he was."

Cheloya,

Happy b-day. Hope it's a good one. :)

Your neglectful seme.

So, leg is not seeming to heal. The doc put a bandage on instead of a splint this time, since one of his leg bones is unbroken and acts as a sort of splint itself. She said not to come back until the bandage falls off, and we'll do more xrays then. If there's some sign of healing by then she'll just re-wrap it, if not we might have to go in for surgery.

This whole ordeal is proving very expensive. I've managed the last few appointments on money put aside in advance, and by cutting my food budget way down, but I don't know how I'll be able to swing it if we have to have surgery. Really wishing I had pet health insurance now.

I want my cat back. :(

So, here are a few before/after pictures of the poor Broken Kitten.

My poor baby. :(

So, my cat broke his leg Sunday night. The whole ordeal has been rather awful, and he's going to be living in my closet for the next few weeks while he heals, and the doctor says there's a chance it won't heal properly and he'll need surgery. I'm rather upset, and kitten is unhappy, and I miss my hugs. I keep turning around and expecting him to be at my heels, but he's not. I want my crazy-making boy back. :(

Summer!!!

Since I took a class in the first summer session, I'm only getting off now. So relieved to be able to rest. Next week I've got a big family thing to go to - long road trip followed by camping, fun. But it'll be nice to see that side of my family again. Focusing on cleaning right now.

So, I discovered this program. This beautiful, wonderful, godsend of a program. Delicious Library.

Basically, it uses your webcam to scan the barcode of any book, cd, dvd, etc, and compiles a list. Which I can then upload to the internet (if I wished) or save to my iPod. Now I never have to worry about buying duplicates again!

It only took me a couple of hours to scan and relabel (because I'm finicky that way) my entire manga collection. I'll work on books tomorrow.

So . . . I have 149 volumes of manga. (O.o) Jesus. That's a small fortune, right there, put together over the years.

Seriously, though, check out the free trial.

Note: With older manga, sometimes the outside barcode gives you the wrong thing (Tokyo Mew Mew Volume 1, again and again, and again). In this case, just use the barcode on the inside of the book instead. It's a bit harder for the program to "grab," but it'll give you the correct item.

So, had my H1N1 vaccine today - gotta love being on the priority list! Of the dozen or so needles I've had stuck in me over the last month, it was the least painful. In fact, I hardly felt it at all. Good, yeah?

Except now my arm is hurting like a really hurty thing. Ow.

-----

Anyways, on to the topic: I'm not doing Nano this year, due to extreme cases of FAIL in recent years, but my system rebels at the idea of not doing insane amounts of crappy writing in November. It just feels wrong. So I've made a commitment to write 50000 words put together by the 30th. Yesterday I split the words between a DS9 AU I've been wanting to write for years, and a Torchwood/Dark Is Rising crossover I've been wanting to write for years. I highly doubt that either of these will ever be completed.

The point? I would much like prompts/requests. As many as possible, please - don't worry about giving me too many. Anything that's half-decent I'll edit and post as Xmas fics, the other stuff I may or may not post raw depending on how embarrassingly terrible it is.

Also? [insanejournal.com profile] cheloya: Please let me know what you would like specifically for your birthday fic.

Once again, f-listers: If you would be so kind, please please please give me some prompts to work with. I'd appreciate it ever so much!

Bored now.

Finally got in Control and Quis Custodiet, read them on Saturday. Very awesome, loved the new shorts. The 1st person POV was a bit of a surprise, but it was interesting to get B-C's POV.

Unfortunately, now I've ended up the the dreaded Land of Boredom. I have homework I should be doing, but I keep procrastinating, so, yeah, that's not happening.

(Also I have to get up early tomorrow morning & have blood taken at 9 in the morning. And I have to walk to the lab. Blech.)

No new Merlin this week, which is just depressing. I really like the bigger role they've given Morgana, hope they keep it up through the season.
feather_qwill: (crusoe: crusoe + friday: circus!)
. . . When I'm not busy hating you, that is.

Today, I received in my mail the following items:

Crusoe TV series DVD (watching right now - oh, show, so sad you died without an ending. T_T)
Supernatural Season 4 (Cas! CascascascasCAS!)
Hot Fuzz (been meaning to buy this for ages.)

Here's the thing about canceled TV shows: it hurts me, but most of the time it's not unexpected. However, when the network renews a show, and said show finishes a season with a cliffhanger, and then only after that does the network change their mind and cancel it after all, and I'm left with nothing even vaguely resembling a properly-ended storyline, then, then, I'm pissed off.

Anyways, I've ordered Quis Custodiet and Control from Casperian Books, so I'll spend the weekend rereading the first three. I was desperately poor when Control first came out, and by the time I had money again, QC had been announced and I figured I'd just wait and save the extra shipping.

I had about an hour of huge energy and feel-goodness today. Then it went away and I was tired.

PS: [insanejournal.com profile] cheloya? I'm still sticking to one volume a night, so there. :P

I have come to the conclusion that it is well past time to do a reread of Petshop 1-10.

I shall attempt to do this slowly, reading no more than one volume a day.
